Form a Reading Habit (a post about books)

my bookshelf

One of my goals is to read/listen to a book a month. I’ve read some awesome books recently:

David and Goliath by Malcolm Gladwell

Without Their Permission by Alexis Ohanian (founder of Reddit)

The Monk Who Sold His Ferrari by Robin Sharma

The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin.

Last week, I read a couple good blog posts about books that inspired this post. Two actually come from Tim Ferriss, one of my favorite authors. Tim wrote the Four Hour Workweek, the Four Hour Body, and the Four Hour Chef, all of which I highly recommend. From Tim’s blog last week:

You Are What You Read: 14 Thought Leaders Share Their Bookshelves (Teaser: Sheryl Sandberg’s book Lean In appeared on several bookshelves, check out the other common reads)

The Tim Ferriss Book Club Launches- Book #1: Vagabonding (this book by Rolf Potts is on my Top 5 list of favorite books I’ve ever read)

This was posted on the Inc.com Facebook page today: The Top 10 Motivational Books of All Time (The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People by Stephen Covey, How to Win Friends And Influence People by Dale Carnegie, and Think and Grow Rich by Napolean Hill rounded out the bottom 3 spots of the list which was surprising to me. Read the whole article to see the top books!)

And here is a cool blog post from the ZenHabits blog: Why I read (+ a dozen book recommendations) (a post about WHY and HOW to form a reading habit)

  1. I liked your link to “You Are What You Read…” I’m always curious as to what other people have on their bookshelves, especially people in influential positions or artists that I admire. I have read some very god books recently. In particular I would recommend a short story collection by Jess Walter’s ” We Live in Water” and Jonathan Tropper’s “One Last Thing Before I Go”. So many authors that I love have just released books and I can’t wait to read them- Tom Perrotta and Jhumpa Lahiri are at the top of the list. I’ve loved all of their previous works!

  2. Another great posting ….reading is such a great habit to cultivate. I loved Linchpin a gift from Robert. It helped me form a plan of attach for my career change.

Thanks for your food for thought!
